Apprenticeship

WE DO NOT HAVE AN APTITUDE TEST SCHEDULED AT THIS TIME

What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprentice is someone who is taking a trade and working under the guidance of skilled workers called journeypersons. Apprentices are required to attend three terms of school consisting of eight week blocks over a four or five year period and have completed 8000 hours of on the job training.

The training is free and attending school is mandatory when asked to attend by Millwright Local 2309. If you fail to attend scheduled classes, you will terminate your apprenticeship contract.

Apprentices start at 60% of the journeypersons pay rate and wages are increased at 2000 hour intervals until receiving his/her Certificate of Qualification.

Qualifications:

· Minimum 18 years of age

· Successful completion of High School, GED or equivalent

· Must have a valid drivers license

· Must have a SIN card

· Must reside within local 2309 territorial area

How are Candidates Selected?

After an application has been submitted, selected applicants will be invited to write an aptitude test that consists of mathematical and mechanical sections. The test date will be determined by the Apprenticeship Committee and the availability of the instructor.

Local 2309 start tests at the scheduled time, applicants must be present when the test begins or will not be able to take the test. When writing the test, they are not allowed to bring in any reference material and cannot take anything out of the building after the test is over.

Only those applications that achieve 70% or greater will be given an interview. The interview date will be sent to you by e-mail with the time and date of the interview stated in the letter.

If the applicant has a successful interview, he/she will be sent out to work where they will work with a journey person on a specific jobsite. When the applicant/apprentice is not working, they will attend structured training classes to learn different skills needed to become a better journeyperson and make themselves more employable.

Please periodically visit our site and submit a resume, relevant certifications/tickets and a High School Diploma, GED or College/University transcript when we have scheduled mechanical aptitude tests.
